CCUI is committed to protesting injustice, listening to our local community, and responding with relevant and timely service projects to meet known needs.
To learn more about how to make an impact in our local community and take political action, visit our Events Page on Mobilize here. Also feel free to contact us with ideas for future service projects. We’re always listening!
Camel City United Indivisible is part of a grassroots movement aimed at promoting progressive values and empowering citizens to take action for social, economic, and political change.
Regular Protests
Listening Sessions
Service Projects
CCUI regularly organizes protests and rallies in Forsyth County, NC. We participate in all national Indivisible Protests such as No Kings Day and the John Lewis Make Good Trouble Day. We also participate in local protests with other groups supporting justice, compassion, and inclusion.
Our protests have drawn 500 to 2,000 participants and included:
- The April Rally for Economic Justice
- May Day Workers’ Rally
- Car Rally
- Moral Mondays
- No Kings 1, 2, and 3
The CCUI group in the Winston-Salem Pride parade drew 1,000 marchers as part of Queens Day Rising.
In smaller numbers, we hold regular protests at the offices of Senators Budd and Senator Tillis. And our members regularly join Forsyth Democrats to protest weekly at the Green Street pedestrian bridge.
Please join us! For information about upcoming CCUI events, click here.
As much as we love protesting (and we do!), to effect permanent change, our community needs to vote. To help increase voter engagement, we hold regular listening sessions in those neighborhoods in our community with the lowest voting rates.
Chastising marginalized communities for not voting is condescending and ineffective. Instead, we regularly meet with those neighbors, not to talk but to LISTEN to their concerns to better understand why they’re not engaged with the political process and what obstacles we might help them overcome to become more active participants in our democracy.
In addition to talking to voters, we participate in a range of service projects to assist our struggling neighbors. So far, these include food drives and collecting school supplies. Why? Because a single mom struggling to buy groceries and school supplies isn’t going to be focused on electoral issues.
Community Building
We also enjoy regular community-building events where we get to know each other better.
